Ayurvedic Ways to Take Care of your Hair

Ayurveda is a holistic concept for skin and hair care and gives various solutions for hair problems that are safe and healthy. Ayurveda comprises two factors- healthy Ahara-Vihara (diet and lifestyle) that benefit the complete well-being of your body.

Thus, it alleviates daily hair problems like Hair fall, itchy scalp, dandruff and split ends without any side effects.

Ayurvedic Ways for Good Hair Care

Ayurveda provides some basic hair care solutions that result in long and healthy hair. Here are a few ways you can incorporate it in your hair care routine.

  • Massage your hair regularly.

Regular massaging of your hair and scalp increases blood circulation in the roots of your hair. Cleanse your hair and scalp regularly to prevent clogged follicles, itching, and scalp infection. Combing also stimulates oil-producing glands in the scalp that makes the hair shiny and healthy.

  • Regularly oil your hair.

Ayurveda considers the scalp as a source of various energy-relieving points. And oiling it regularly, preferably with a medicated oil, relaxes your mind and releases stress. It also nourishes the hair follicles for hair growth.

  • Use a gentle shampoo.

In Ayurveda, it is advised that one should wash one’s hair at least twice or thrice a week with a gentle, chemical-free shampoo. This cleanses the scalp and removes dead skin cells and impurities to reduce dandruff and avoid scalp infections. While shampooing, do not use extremely cold or hot water to wash your hair, as that can cause hair fall.

  • Take time out to manage stress.

While stress is a part of one’s daily life, if you take too much stress, it can lead to premature graying of hair, immense hair fall, and dry, dull hair among other things. Thus, it is important to take out time to relax and relieve stress. You can do this by practicing meditation or yoga techniques, or indulging in an activity that unwinds you.

  • Avoid overuse of hair styling tools.

Overusing hair styling tools like straighteners, curlers, or blow dryers can weaken your hair from the roots, leaving them damaged. This can cause hair fall, dryness, split ends, and many more problems. Replace styling irons with heat-free hair styling alternatives.

  • Improve your sleeping habits.

Sleep is an important factor in keeping your mind, body, and hair healthy. Irregular sleeping habits or not sleeping for a minimum of 6-8 hours can disturb your body clock and lead to stress and hair problems. Try going to bed early, reduce your screen time, and have a light dinner to get better sleep.

  • Take a healthy & nutritious diet.

A balanced diet is necessary to prevent premature hair graying and reduce hair fall. Meals that include coconut, green vegetables, a whole grain-rich diet, dry fruits, curd, and healthy fats such as ghee are very important in building healthy hair.

To Sum Up

Beside all the Ayurvedic hair care solutions stated above, you should avoid consumption of alcohol and cigarettes, and protect your hair from a harsh environment. When you cannot avoid going out in the sun, cover your hair with a cap or a scarf. This keeps them protected from dust, pollution, harmful sun rays, or rain.
